India-Bhutan Development Cooperation: Release of INR/Nu. 2.5 billion (250 Crores) for High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP)

Ambassador of India to Bhutan Shri Sudhakar Dalela along with H. E. Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Royal Government of Bhutan visited “Construction of Bazaam at Centenary Farmers Market area” and "Enhancement of Urban Road connectivity in Jungzina and Samtenling areas" and reviewed the implementation of bilateral development cooperation. “Construction of Bazaam at Centenary Farmers Market area” and "Enhancement of Urban Road connectivity in Jungzina and Samtenling areas" are two High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) being undertaken in Thimphu through GoI support in the 13th Five Year Plan.

2. HICDPs are short-gestation projects mainly in areas such as drinking water supply networks, irrigation canals, farm roads, basic health units, and other rural infrastructure. A sum of INR/Nu. 10 billion (1000 Crores) has been allocated for HICDP in the 13th Five Year Plan period. The first batch of 283 HICDP projects of amount INR/Nu. 4.17 billion (417 Crores) was approved by both governments in December 2024

3. Ambassador Dalela handed over a cheque of INR/Nu. 2.5 billion (250 Crores) to Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel as the second tranche of fund release for the first batch of HICDP projects. Earlier in January 2025, the first tranche of funds amounting to INR/Nu. 1.25 billion (125 Crores) was released.

4. The Government of India enjoys robust development partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan and is committed to strengthening it further.
