Fifth India-Bhutan Friendship Tennis Tournament launched.

On 02 July 2019, Ambassador of India to Bhutan, Ms. Ruchira Kamboj, inaugurated the Fifth India-Bhutan Tennis Tournament at the iconic Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu.

Over 70 players, including 20 from India, 3 from Bangladesh and 5 from Nepal, are participating in the 6-day Tournament, under various categories such as Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Veterans, Mixed Doubles, etc. The Tournament will end on 07 July 2019, with attractive cash prizes awarded to the winners.

The India-Bhutan Tennis Tournament has been organised since 2015 by the Bhutan Tennis Federation, with financial support from the India-Bhutan Foundation(IBF). This year too, the IBF has provided sponsorship for the Tournament, in order to encourage sporting culture in Bhutan and to bring together tennis enthusiasts from both countries.

The number of Indian tennis players in the Tournament has been increasing over the years - this year’s Tournament will see participation of players from the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

The India-Bhutan Foundation was set up with the mandate to foster people-to-people links between both countries. Over the years, the India-Bhutan Tennis Tournament has emerged as one of the most popular and successful initiatives supported by the IBF.
