Press Release: Handing over of medical supplies to Bhutan

Government of India is pleased to respond to the request from the Royal Government of Bhutan for provision of medical supplies in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19. The first consignment of medical supplies comprising surgical masks, surgical gloves, head covers, shoe covers and hand sanitizers was handed over by the Ambassador of India, Ms. Ruchira Kamboj to Hon’ble Minister of Health of Bhutan, Lyonpo Dechen Wangmo in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health, Royal Government of Bhutan on 23 March 2020.

The consignment of medical supplies has been arranged through the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund facility announced by the Prime Minister of India at the SAARC Leaders’ Video Conference held on 15 March 2020. Additional consignments will also be arranged in keeping with the requirements made by the Royal Government of Bhutan in the coming weeks.

India’s pledge to continue delivery of essential medical supplies is a testimony to the unique bonds of trust and understanding between India and Bhutan over decades. India stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Bhutan to combat the pandemic of COVID-19.
