Visit of a group of students from the Royal University of Bhutan to India from 3-10 September 2019

         A group of ten students from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) background from different colleges affiliated to the Royal University of Bhutan, accompanied by two escorts, will visit India from 3-10 September 2019. The group of students also includes two final year school students who in their role as student representatives welcomed and thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his address at the Convention Hall of the Royal University of Bhutan. The principal attraction of the visit is for the students to witness the landing of the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft on the southern side of the moon from ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network), Bengaluru.

 2.     Other elements of the programme include visits to TERI (The Energy Research Institute) and Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, Infosys campus and Nehru Planetarium in Bengaluru as well as Mahabodhi Temple Complex in Bodh Gaya and Nalanda University. The students will also have some time for recreation at the Akshardham Temple in Delhi, Bannerghata National Park in Karnataka and at Buddhist cultural sites in Rajgir and Nalanda.

 3.       India and Bhutan have close and friendly relations that are unique and built on the basis of mutual trust and respect for each other over centuries. Prime Minister of India paid a State Visit to Bhutan on 17-18 August 2019. A major focus of the visit was on strengthening cooperation in new areas that would be of greater relevance for the youth- education, IT and Space Technologies. The upcoming visit of the group of students is expected to further strengthen the bilateral relations between both countries and bolster people-to-people links, especially amongst the youth, in these areas.
