Press Release: Gift of Six Portable Digital X-Ray Machines to Bhutan

In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance that India would stand by its close friend and neighbour, Bhutan, in fighting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 13th medical consignment containing six (06) units of portable digital x-ray machines from the Government of India was handed over today to the Royal Government of Bhutan through the Ambassador of India to Bhutan Ruchira Kamboj to the Foreign Minister of Bhutan (Dr.) Tandi Dorji. The machines will be utilized for conducting critical health services in various districts of Bhutan. Previously, India had gifted one portable digital x-ray machine to Bhutan in October 2020.

2. With the outbreak of COVID-19, India acted quickly in responding to and addressing the challenges in the region. As a close friend and neighbour, India has accorded utmost priority to the requirements of Bhutan. Since March 2020, the Government of India has delivered 13 medical consignments including 550,000 doses of COVID-19 made-in-India vaccines, essential medicines (Paracetamol, Cetrizine, Hydroxychloroquine), and medical equipment (PPE kits, N95 masks, RT-PCR test kits, x-ray machines) to Bhutan. India is also collaborating with Bhutan for strengthening clinical trial research capacity.

3. India’s gesture to continue delivery of essential medical supplies is a reflection of the special bonds of trust and understanding between India and Bhutan that have existed over decades. Going forward, India will continue to extend all possible support to Bhutan to minimize the health and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. The Government and the people of India stand resolutely committed to the long term well-being and prosperity of the Government and the people of Bhutan.
