Press Release: India@75 Amrit Mahotsav Inter-Dzongkhag Quiz on Buddhism

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Royal Government of Bhutan and the Bhutan Broadcasting Service, the Embassy of India organized an Inter-Dzongkhag Quiz on Buddhism amongst school students of Bhutan. The Preliminary Round of the Quiz on Buddhism was held on 16 November 2021 amongst students from 18 schools from different Dzongkhags of Bhutan. The Final Round of the Quiz held amongst four finalist school teams, was broadcast LIVE on National Television by Bhutan Broadcasting Service on 1 December 2021.

2. The prize distribution ceremony of the #Amrit Mahotsav Quiz on Buddhism was organized at the India House Estate on 9 December 2021. Students and Coordinators from the four finalist school teams attended the ceremony along with the Quizmaster Ms. Thinley Yangchen Dorji.

3. Sonam Thinley Tshering and Nima Om, students of Khuruthang Middle Secondary School, Punakha won the first prize, which is a 5-day all expenses paid tour to Buddhist sites in India, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for both winners as well as one companion/parent each. Full hospitality has been extended by the Ministry of Tourism including four economy class return tickets, accommodation, boarding, airport pick up/drop, car for sightseeing and Guide services for the two winners and two companions.

4. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj handed over the prizes and merit certificates to the winning team members of the Quiz Competition and the other finalist teams. The other finalist teams were awarded the following cash prizes:-

(i) The Royal Academy, Paro 1st Runners’ up Nu 30,000-

(ii) Jigme Sherubling Central School, Trashigang 2nd Runners’ up Nu 24,000-

(iii) Ura Middle Secondary School, Bumthang 3rd Runners’ up Nu 20,000-

5. The Quiz on Buddhism was a sequel to the India@75 Virtual Tour of the Buddhist Circuit in India hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the Embassy of India on 26 October 2021, telecast LIVE on National Television by BBS.

6. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Quiz on Buddhism, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj said, “The Embassy of India has been privileged to host a nationwide Quiz on Buddhism – often described as the unchanging constant in the age-old relations between India and Bhutan. My grateful thanks to the Department of School Education and all participating schools of Bhutan, as also my gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for collaborating with the Embassy through this journey.”
